Further Information:

According to information passed on to me by Ian Caldwell , in Dec 2001: "Matilda (formerly Edith) daughter of Malcolm III, married Henry I King of England, the fourth son of William the Conqueror, on 11th November 1100 and by him she had four children. She died in May 1118 after which Henry married again, to Adeliza of Louvain, but had no children by her.

Henry became King after the suspicious death of his brother, William Rufus, killed in a hunting accident in the new Forest on 2nd August 1100. Henry's marriage to Matilda helped to secure his position as king, as she was the daughter of Malcolm III of Scotland, daughter of Edward the Atheling and grand daughter of Edmund II of England. He outwitted his eldest brother, Robert, and eventually invaded Normandy and captured him and imprisoned him for the rest of his life (28 years!). He married his eldest daughter, Adelaide (who adopted the name Matilda on her marriage), when she was 12, to Henrich V, Emperor of Germany, who was 32. His two legitimate sons drowned when the White Ship sank off Harfleur".
