According to information passed on to me by Ian Caldwell, in Dec 2001: "Elizabeth Cope (b.1635), daughter of Colonel William Cope and Lady Elizabeth Fane, married Thomas Geers of Marsh, Shropshire and was his second wife. He was first married to Sarah Colles, daughter and co-heir of Timothy Colles of Hatfield.
Thomas Geers enriched his family by his marriages to heiresses.
A Thomas Geers of Doctor¹s Commons, London, was great uncle to this
Thomas, and had purchased the Manor of Bridge Colars in 1635, leaving it
to his brother, Francis, who had purchased the adjoining estate of Garnons.
Francis left Bridge Colars to his son, Thomas, (d.1675), whose son, this
Thomas, was a Bencher of the Inner Temple, Deputy High Steward of Hereford
and MP for Hereford in 1685. When called to the dignity of the coif he gave
rings with the posy "Deus-Lex-Rex".
